About the series
From 1989 to 1990, Marvel’s “D.P.7” spun out of the “New Universe” imprint, following a group of seven disparate individuals who gained superhuman powers after a mysterious event called the White Event. Writer Mark Gruenwald and artist Paul Ryan anchored the series, grounding its super-powered premise in more personal, street-level drama as the characters struggled with their abilities and a government conspiracy. Though the New Universe line was short-lived, this series stands out for its mature, character-driven take on the superhero genre, exploring the cost of power without costumes or clear-cut villains.
