In the early 1980s, the Italian publisher Elvifrance launched Détectives, a 18-issue series of painted horror comics primarily illustrated by the moody, atmospheric work of Carlo Jacono. Each standalone issue delivered a self-contained, macabre mystery, blending crime noir with supernatural dread in a style that defined the publisher's distinctive European horror-comics line. Though short-lived, the series stands as a cult showcase for Jacono’s lush, cinematic painted covers and interiors, capturing the era’s fascination with stylish, unsettling detective tales.
