About the series
In the late 1980s, Standaard Uitgeverij published De Geuzen, a ten-issue Flemish comic series co-created by the legendary Willy Vandersteen, who both wrote and drew the series alongside artist Eric De Rop. Set during the Dutch Revolt, the series follows a group of rebels fighting Spanish rule in the sixteenth-century Low Countries, blending historical adventure with the classic ligne claire style. Though shorter than many of Vandersteen's other works, De Geuzen stands out as a mature, historically grounded tale from the master of Belgian comics, offering a gritty contrast to his more famous family-friendly series.
