In the early 1980s, French artist François Bourgeon brought his celebrated series Les Enfants du Vent to the Dutch publisher Oberon, releasing five issues between 1981 and 1984. Set against the backdrop of 17th-century maritime trade, the story follows a young woman navigating a world of adventure, peril, and forbidden love. Bourgeon’s lush, historically detailed artwork and nuanced storytelling made this a standout in European historical comics, cementing its reputation as a classic of the bande dessinée tradition.
