In 2016–2017, IDW’s Deviations offered a compact, two-issue exploration of alternate timelines within the publisher’s core franchises, written and illustrated by a rotating team of creators. Each installment reimagined a pivotal moment from IDW’s ongoing stories—such as the Transformers or G.I. Joe—posing a single “what if” that spun familiar characters into drastically new directions. Though brief, the series served as a playful, self-contained experiment for longtime readers, showcasing how a small change could ripple through IDW’s shared universe without committing to a full alternate continuity.
