Die Zauberflöte

P. Craig Russell’s lush, operatic adaptation of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte brings the classic Singspiel to comics form, published by Egmont Ehapa from 1991 onward. With Russell both writing and illustrating, joined by Joachim Stahl on scripting duties, the three-issue series translates the fairy-tale quest of Prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno into a visually stunning, fantasy-rich narrative. It stands as a key example of Russell’s celebrated career adapting literary and musical works into the sequential art medium.
