どろろ [Dororo]
秋田書店 [Akita Shoten] · 1971–1972 · 4 issues
About the series
A stark, supernatural samurai tale from early-1970s Japan, Dororo was serialized in just four issues of Akita Shoten's Bōken'ō magazine. The story follows a young ronin, Hyakkimaru, who was born without 48 body parts due to a pact his father made with demons, and the orphaned thief Dororo who joins him on a quest to reclaim them. Created by the legendary "God of Manga" Osamu Tezuka, this grim, morally complex series stands as a dark fantasy classic that contrasts his more whimsical work, exploring themes of humanity and sacrifice.
