Dr. Seuss Goes to War The World War II Editorial Cartoons of Theodor Seuss Geisel
The New Press · 1999 · 1 issue
About the series
From 1999 onward, The New Press collected the World War II editorial cartoons of Theodor Seuss Geisel in a single volume, edited and contextualized by historian Richard Minear. Before he created his beloved children's books, Dr. Seuss drew over 400 pointed, often controversial political cartoons for the New York newspaper PM, targeting Hitler, isolationism, and racism at home. This collection preserves a sharp, unvarnished side of a legendary artist, showing how his distinctive visual style served wartime propaganda and social commentary. It remains an essential document of both American history and Dr. Seuss's early career.
