Fantasmagori

Though it never produced a single issue, Fantasmagori (2010–2013) remains a fascinating footnote in Danish underground comics, a conceptual project from the publisher Ondskabens Flydende Vatikan / Jernpaven & Co. The series was intended as an anthology of surreal, grotesque, and experimental work, with its title and non-existent run itself becoming part of the absurdist art it sought to house. Associated most closely with the publisher's core collective of fringe cartoonists, it matters as a deliberate anti-comic—a statement about the boundaries of publication and the very definition of a series.
