About the series
Felix the Cat, a star of the silent-film era, made a long-running leap into comic books with this series from publisher Elmsdale, which began in 1940 and has since stretched to 119 issues. The strip was primarily guided by the talents of Otto Messmer and Joe Oriolo, the animators who defined the character’s mischievous, black-cat persona on screen. As an early and enduring example of a cartoon character successfully transitioning to the four-color page, this title helped cement Felix as a beloved, shape-shifting trickster for generations of readers.
