Follies
Loempia · 1987–1993 · 45 issues
About the series
In the late 1980s, the Belgian publisher Loempia launched Follies, a 45-issue anthology series that ran through 1993, offering a showcase for offbeat and experimental European comics. The series became a playground for a rotating cast of creators, most notably the distinctive talents of François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters, whose architectural and fantastical sensibilities left a strong imprint on its pages. Follies matters as a vibrant, era-defining collection that captured the creative energy of the alternative comics scene at the time, blending surreal humor, intricate art, and narrative ambition.
