Funnyworld

Mike Barrier’s Funnyworld (1966–1980, 23 issues) was a labor of love from a noted animation historian, blending Barrier’s own comics and criticism with work by frequent collaborators John Fawcett and a very early Richard Corben. Published as a small-press magazine, it offered a mix of satirical strips, historical essays on cartooning, and proto-underground experimentation. While never a mainstream hit, the series is a fascinating artifact of the late-’60s/’70s alternative-comics scene, showcasing Barrier’s dual passion for both making and analyzing funny pictures.
