About the series
In Fushigi Yûgi: Genbu Kaiden (2005–2014, Viz), Yuu Watase returns to the world of the Four Gods with a prequel set centuries before the original series. This twelve-issue saga follows a young priestess summoned to a war-torn ancient China, where she must gather the seven Celestial Warriors of Genbu to save a crumbling kingdom. Watase both writes and illustrates the series, with translation and adaptation by Lilian Olsen and Shaenon Garrity, and additional art assists from Rina Mapa and Walden Wong.
