Alain Ayroles and Bruno Maïorana’s Garulfo is a sly, beautifully painted French fantasy series from the 1990s, published by Splitter. Over four issues, it turns the fairy-tale world upside down by following a frog who, after being transformed into a prince, discovers that human society is far more absurd and corrupt than his pond ever was. A sharp, witty satire of classic tropes, it’s a standout of European comics for its lush art and clever inversion of the “prince and the frog” legend.
