Launching in 1994 from Image Comics, Gen 13 introduced a team of super-powered teens—including Caitlin Fairchild, Grunge, Freefall, and Burnout—who were products of a clandestine government project. Written and co-created by Brandon Choi and Jim Lee, with J. Scott Campbell’s dynamic, highly stylized art defining its visual identity, the series captured the mid-90s energy of youthful rebellion and explosive action. Its six-issue original run established a cornerstone of the WildStorm universe, blending sci-fi conspiracy with a distinctly adolescent attitude that resonated with the era’s comic audience.
