Grateful Dead Comix

A seven-issue series from Kitchen Sink Press (1991–1993), Grateful Dead Comix brought together a rotating cast of underground and alternative cartoonists—most frequently Dan Steffan, Nina Paley, and Tim Truman—to create original, psychedelic-tinged comics inspired by the band's music and counterculture ethos. Rather than straightforward adaptations, the stories and art evoked the freewheeling, improvisational spirit of a Dead show, making it a distinctive artifact of the early-90s comics scene.
