About the series
Before EC Comics became famous for horror, they tested the Western genre with Gunfighter (1948–1950), a ten-issue series that brought together some of the company's soon-to-be legendary talents. Writers Al Feldstein and Gardner Fox, alongside artists like Graham Ingels, Al Feldstein, and Johnny Craig, crafted rugged frontier tales of outlaws, lawmen, and settlers. Though short-lived, the series is notable as an early showcase for the moody, detailed art style that would define EC's later, more celebrated work. It stands as a fascinating glimpse into the publisher's pre-horror era, where the seeds of their distinctive storytelling were already being sown.
