Hairbat

David Zapanta’s Hairbat (1993–1994) is a six-issue comic from Screaming Rice Press, a creator-owned showcase for the writer/artist’s surreal, punk-infused storytelling. The series follows a monstrous, bat-winged creature with a mane of hair, navigating a darkly comedic world of absurdity and underground culture. Zapanta’s raw, expressive art and offbeat humor defined this short-lived cult oddity, making it a distinctive artifact of the early-’90s indie comics scene.
