About the series
In the early 1990s, DC Comics reimagined its winged heroes with Hawkworld, a series that grounded Katar Hol and Shayera Thal in a gritty, sci-fi police procedural on the planet Thanagar. Written primarily by John Ostrander and Timothy Truman, with art from Graham Nolan, Jan Duursema, and Truman himself, the book expanded on the duo’s struggle against corruption and the brutal legacy of their world. This series gave the Hawkman mythology a darker, more political edge, influencing the characters’ direction for years to come.
