About the series
A moody, fantastical war comic from the early 1970s, Helgenen ran for 38 issues from Denmark’s Nordisk Forlag, following the brutal adventures of a lone mercenary trapped in the chaos of the Thirty Years' War. The series is best remembered for the stark, detailed artwork of Spanish artists Martín Salvador, Jaime Brocal Remohí, and Robert Llin, who brought a grim historical weight to the scripts by Donne Avenell and Norman Worker. It stands as a distinctive European blend of action and atmosphere, offering a more somber take on the lone-gunman archetype long before such antiheroes became commonplace.
