About the series
Herbie (1964–1967) from American Comics Group is a surreal, offbeat humor series centered on the improbably powerful, lollipop-sucking fat boy Herbie Popnecker. Written primarily by Shane O'Shea and Richard Hughes, with all issues illustrated by the singular Ogden Whitney, the comic follows Herbie's bizarre adventures that often involve real-world figures like Charles de Gaulle and Queen Elizabeth II. The series also introduced the superhero parody The Fat Fury, a costumed alter ego for Herbie. Its deadpan, absurdist tone and Whitney's distinctive art have made it a cult favorite among fans of strange Silver Age comics.
