About the series
In the late '80s and early '90s, Slave Labor Graphics published Hero Sandwich, a nine-issue series that served up a satirical, behind-the-scenes look at the lives of low-level superheroes and wannabe crimefighters. Written primarily by Dan Vado and Chuck Austen, with art by Peter Krause, Aldin Baroza, and Norman Felchle, the comic blended workplace comedy with superhero tropes, focusing on the mundane frustrations and absurdities of a struggling hero agency. Its grounded, character-driven humor and indie sensibility made it a cult favorite among readers who appreciated a more human and less glamorous take on the genre.
