About the series

Harvey Kurtzman's Humbug (1957–1958) was a short-lived but influential satirical comic magazine from Humbug Publications, assembling many of the EC Comics alumni—including artists Will Elder, Jack Davis, and Al Jaffee—who had defined the classic Mad under Kurtzman's editorship. Running just eleven issues, the series offered a sharp, often absurdist take on American culture, politics, and advertising, serving as a direct creative follow-up to Kurtzman's earlier work. Though its run was brief, Humbug is remembered as a key bridge between the EC era and the underground comix movement, showcasing the same irreverent, multi-panel humor that its creators would later bring to Help! and Mad magazine's heyday.
