About the series
In this German-language edition of the classic French comic series by René Goscinny and Jean Tabary, the bumbling Grand Vizier Isnogud endlessly schemes to overthrow the Caliph and seize the throne of Baghdad, only to have his plans backfire spectacularly. Published by Egmont Ehapa from 1974 to 1986, the 16-issue run features translations and adaptations by Gudrun Penndorf alongside the original creators' work. A cornerstone of European humor comics, Isnogud’s absurd, slapstick plots and memorable catchphrase "I want to be Caliph instead of the Caliph!" have made it a beloved fixture of comic history.
