In 1978, Finnish publisher Atlantic-Kustannus launched a six-issue comic series adapting Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars, bringing the swashbuckling adventures of the Civil War veteran turned Barsoomian warlord to a new audience. While the series ran for only a half-dozen issues, it stands as a notable early European attempt to translate the classic pulp hero into sequential art, capturing the strange landscapes and epic battles of the Red Planet.
