Running for seven issues from 1981 to 1987, the Judge Dredd Annual from IPC collected oversized, standalone stories from the law-heavy world of Mega-City One. Anchored by John Wagner’s scripting and the gritty, dynamic art of Ron Smith and Mike McMahon, these annuals expanded the strip’s universe with longer tales featuring Dredd’s allies (like the informant Max Normal and the robot Walter the Wobot) and his most vicious foes, including the brutal Mean Machine Angel. A key artifact of the character’s early prime, these annuals offered a denser, more cinematic dose of Dredd’s satirical, violent justice.
