From 1952 to 1954, Superior Publishers brought the jungle lord Kaänga to the stands for an 11-issue run, a Tarzan-esque adventure series that leaned heavily on the lush, dynamic artwork of Maurice Whitman and Robert Webb. While the character himself had earlier pulp roots, this comic iteration defined his visual legacy for a generation, with Webb’s muscular linework and Whitman’s dramatic jungle vistas making each issue a showcase for classic, untamed adventure. Though short-lived, Kaänga stands as a vivid artifact of the early 1950s comics boom, where raw energy and exotic locales could still carry a title without superheroes.
