About the series
In the late 1970s, Marvel Comics translated Hanna-Barbera’s zany animated competition into a 13-issue comic series, Laff-A-Lympics (1978–1979). Writers Mark Evanier and Art Scott, alongside artists Sal Buscema, Román Arámbula, and Dan Spiegle, orchestrated a globe-trotting athletic farce pitting teams like the Scooby-Doo-led Scooby Snackers against the villainous Dread Baron and his crew. Featuring a rotating cast of cartoon icons—including Captain Caveman, Dynomutt, and Yogi Bear’s Boo Boo—the series captured the era’s playful crossover spirit without inventing new lore. It remains a lighthearted artifact of Marvel’s licensed funnies, celebrating the slapstick camaraderie of classic TV toons.
