Al Capp’s beloved hillbilly satire made the leap from newspaper strips to its own Harvey Comics series from 1947 to 1949, running nine issues. While Capp oversaw the book, the C. C. Beck Shop and artists like Lee Elias helped adapt the adventures of Dogpatch’s finest, including side characters Captain Tootsie and Rollo. This short-lived but fondly remembered title captures the post-war era of comic-book spinoffs from syndicated strips, offering a compact dose of Capp’s folksy, irreverent humor.
