Lord Farris: Slavemaster

In the late 1990s, Fantagraphics published this eight-issue series by artist Peter Noga Jr., a darkly satirical fantasy epic set in a brutal, sword-and-sorcery world. The strip follows the misadventures of its titular antihero, a morally compromised warlord whose reign of exploitation is depicted with unflinching, absurdist humor. Noga’s detailed, expressionistic art and pitch-black comedic tone made Lord Farris: Slavemaster a cult oddity of the alternative comics scene, pushing the boundaries of the publisher’s usual literary fare.
