Madman Comics

From 1994 to 2000, Dark Horse Comics published Madman Comics, a 20-issue series that expanded the surreal, pop-art world of Frank Einstein, the bandaged hero known as Madman. Writer and artist Mike Allred, frequently collaborating with Bernie Mireault and joined by Alex Ross on art, shaped the series' vibrant, retro-futuristic tone. Alongside Madman, the stories featured a rotating cast of characters like the cosmic Astroman, the mysterious Dr. Boiffard, and the sinister Dr. Flem, blending superhero action with existential whimsy. This run cemented Allred's distinctive voice in indie comics, offering a heartfelt, visually inventive take on heroism that remains a touchstone of the era.
