About the series

In the late 1960s, Gold Key Comics launched Magnus, a sci-fi series set in a future where humanity lives in domed cities and relies on benevolent robots. Writer-artist Russ Manning, with frequent collaborators Robert Schaefer, Eric Freiwald, Mike Royer, and Paul Norris, crafted the adventures of Magnus, a fighter trained to defend his society from rogue machines. The series stands out for its clean, dynamic artwork and its thoughtful exploration of humanity’s relationship with technology, predating similar themes in later cyberpunk and robot-centric comics.
