Meat Cake

Dame Darcy’s Meat Cake ran for 18 issues from 1993 to 2008 with Fantagraphics, a surreal, gothic-feminist series that blended Victorian whimsy with punk-rock grotesquerie. Darcy wrote and drew every issue, populating its world with a cast of oddball characters like the mermaid Effluvia and the zombie-boy Wax. The series stood out for its unapologetically weird, hand-drawn aesthetic and its exploration of outsider identity, making it a cult touchstone of ’90s alternative comics.
