About the series
In 1994, Malibu Comics launched this seven-issue series based on the hit fighting game, adapting the first tournament into a darker, more detailed narrative. Written primarily by Charles Marshall, with art by Patrick Rolo and Kiki Chansamone, the series follows the warrior Liu Kang and his allies—including Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, and the thunder god Rayden—as they battle the sorcerer Shang Tsung and the mercenary Kano. It stands as a key early expansion of the Mortal Kombat mythos, giving fans a deeper look at the characters and conflict before the franchise's multimedia explosion.
