Mutt and Jeff

Bud Fisher’s long-running newspaper strip found a second life in this 13-issue series from Cupples & Leon, collecting the misadventures of the lanky, scheming Mutt and his short, gullible pal Jeff. Running from 1919 to 1931, these comic reprints captured the duo’s vaudevillian slapstick and enduring appeal as one of the earliest daily comic strips to achieve widespread syndication. A foundational work of American newspaper comics, it helped cement Fisher’s place in the medium’s history.
