About the series
From 1939 to 1958, DC Comics published Mutt & Jeff, a long-running 103-issue series based on Bud Fisher’s classic newspaper strip. The book chronicled the daily misadventures of the lanky, scheming Mutt and his short, gullible pal Jeff, with the regular presence of supporting characters like Captain Tootsie, Rollo, and Fatso. While Fisher himself contributed to the writing, the series was largely sustained by talents such as Jack Schiff, Bill Schreiber, and artists Win Mortimer and C. C. Beck, who kept the slapstick humor alive for nearly two decades.
