About the series
From 1957 to 1970, Shueisha’s Ribon Furoku was a pioneering series of 76 color supplements bundled with the iconic girls’ magazine Ribon, offering a vibrant, standalone comics experience. Primarily shaped by the collaborative duo of writer Mitsuru Takemoto and artist Keiji Yoshitani—with legendary artist Leiji Matsumoto also contributing—these booklets delivered a distinct, playful visual style that helped define the early shojo manga aesthetic. As a precursor to the magazine’s later, more famous serials, this series matters as a colorful, experimental bridge between post-war manga and the golden age of girls’ comics.
