Romances of the West

Marvel’s Romances of the West (1949–1950) was a brief two-issue series that blended the publisher’s early romance and Western genres, a common pairing in postwar comics. Writer John Masefield and artist John Buscema—the latter early in his legendary career—crafted these frontier love stories, offering a snapshot of Marvel’s pre-superhero era. Though short-lived, it’s a notable artifact of the company’s genre experimentation and a showcase for Buscema’s emerging storytelling talent.
