About the series
The Sad Sack series (1984–1987) from Americom Comics revives the classic, long-running military humor strip for a new generation. Spanning 33 issues, this run follows the perpetually hapless, good-natured private through a fresh gauntlet of Army absurdities and peacetime mishaps. While the character originated decades earlier, this incarnation is most associated with writer/artist Fred Rhoads, who brought a clean, energetic style to the Sack's timeless struggles. It matters as a late-era, small-press continuation of one of comics' most iconic and enduring comic-strip soldiers.
