Arédit-Artima's Spectral (1974–1977) was a 15-issue French comics anthology that introduced local readers to the brooding horror of DC's "Swamp Thing" mythos—here called La Chose des Marécages. Anchored by the moody, detailed art of Bernie Wrightson and Jim Aparo, with scripts by Len Wein and others, the series followed scientist Alec Holland's transformation into a swamp elemental, alongside allies Matt and Linda Holland and the sinister Nathan Ellery and Abigail Arcane. A key import of American gothic storytelling into the European market, Spectral stands as a distinctive, cult-favorite bridge between two comics cultures.
