Star-Studded Comics
Texas Trio · 1963–1972 · 18 issues
About the series
From 1963 to 1972, Texas Trio published 18 issues of Star-Studded Comics, a grassroots anthology that became a proving ground for underground and independent talent. Most often written by Larry Herndon, Richard "Grass" Green, and Howard Keltner, and drawn by Green alongside Jim Starlin and Landon Chesney, the series introduced a wild cast including the mad scientist Doctor Weird, the feline alien Xal-Kor, and the heroic Colin Chambers. A key artifact of the 1960s fanzine-to-comics pipeline, it showcased early, raw work from future industry legends and stands as a spirited, DIY landmark in pre-direct market comics.
