About the series
Set between the events of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, Dark Horse’s Star Wars: Empire (2002–2006) expanded the original trilogy’s universe across forty issues. The series balanced galactic-scale conflict with intimate character moments, often spotlighting Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo alongside the Rebellion’s unsung soldiers. With frequent scripting by Ron Marz, Welles Hartley, and Paul Chadwick, and dynamic art from Davide Fabbri, Adriana Melo, and Tomás Giorello, it became a defining prequel-era companion to the classic films. Its sustained run helped solidify Dark Horse’s reputation for thoughtful, continuity-conscious Star Wars storytelling.
