About the series

In the late 1970s, British publisher Hodder & Stoughton brought Peyo's beloved blue creations to English-speaking readers with Stories of the Smurfs, a ten-issue comic series that adapted classic adventures from the original Franco-Belgian run. Anchored by Peyo himself alongside co-writer Yvan Delporte and translator Anthea Bell—whose deft work preserved the charm of Papa Smurf and his village—the series paired the creator's signature art with contributions from collaborator Gos. These slim, colorful issues introduced a generation to the whimsical, forest-bound world of the Smurfs, marking one of the earliest sustained efforts to present the property in a British comic format.
