Sub-Mariner

Marvel · 1968–1974 · 72 issues
About the series

Over 72 issues from 1968 to 1974, Marvel’s Sub-Mariner gave the brooding, tempestuous Prince Namor his first sustained solo series, exploring his role as a conflicted monarch of Atlantis caught between two worlds. Anchored by the foundational work of co-creator Bill Everett—who both wrote and drew many issues—the series also saw lengthy runs by Roy Thomas and Steve Gerber, with art from Sal Buscema and George Tuska. Through clashes with surface-world heroes like the Thing and Reed Richards, and uneasy alliances with fellow aquatic denizen Triton, the book deepened Namor’s tragic antihero status, making it a cornerstone of Marvel’s late-Silver Age expansion.
