About the series
From 1947 to 1948, Western Publishing produced this 31-issue giveaway comic for Hancock Oil Company, a promotional anthology that repackaged classic newspaper strips for a new audience. The series is most closely associated with Chester Gould, whose gritty Dick Tracy strips anchored the lineup alongside Harold Gray’s Little Orphan Annie and Dan Gormley’s contributions.
