About the series
From 1938 to 1943, Western Publishing’s Super Comics served as a lively anthology reprinting popular newspaper strips for a new generation of comic book readers. The series brought together such beloved characters as Milton Caniff’s Terry Lee, Pat Ryan, and The Dragon Lady alongside Chester Gould’s Dick Tracy and Fred Harman’s Red Ryder, with Gould and cartoonists Bill Holman and Al Posen among its most frequent contributors. Over 65 issues, it offered a broad, action-packed sampler of adventure and humor, capturing the pulse of the pre-war and wartime comic strip landscape.
