Superhelden Strip-Paperback

A short-lived but ambitious Dutch series from De Vrijbuiter, Superhelden Strip-Paperback ran for eight issues between 1978 and 1980, collecting translated superhero stories from American publishers like DC and Marvel into an affordable, digest-sized paperback format. Associated with the efforts of editor and translator Martin Lodewijk, it introduced Dutch readers to characters such as the Flash, Aquaman, and the X-Men in a period when domestic superhero comics were still a novelty. Though brief, the series is a notable artifact of European fandom’s growing appetite for imported superhero fare.
