About the series
Launching in 1959 as an anthology title from Marvel, Tales of Suspense initially mixed sci-fi and monster stories before evolving into the launchpad for Iron Man in issue #39. Under the guiding hands of Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Jack Kirby, Don Heck, and Steve Ditko, the series became a cornerstone of the Silver Age, eventually co-starring Captain America in its back half. Its 99-issue run not only introduced Tony Stark’s armored alter ego and the supporting cast of Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan but also reunited Steve Rogers with the modern Marvel Universe, making it essential reading for fans of both heroes.
