About the series
In the Silver Age, DC Comics shrunk the scope of heroism down to the atomic level with The Atom (1962–1968). Over 38 issues, physicist Ray Palmer—aided by his then-girlfriend Jean Loring—used his ability to shrink to subatomic size to explore miniature worlds and battle bizarre threats, often alongside Hawkman and Hawkgirl (Katar Hol and Shayera Thal). The series was defined by the dynamic storytelling of writer Gardner Fox and the sleek, kinetic artwork of Gil Kane, who together turned the tiny hero into a cornerstone of DC’s expanding universe. It remains a classic example of Silver Age ingenuity, blending science fiction with superheroics in a way that made the smallest hero feel larger than life.
