About the series
Jack Kirby’s original 1976–1978 run on The Eternals for Marvel introduced a sprawling cosmic mythology, centering on the immortal, super-powered Eternals and their ancient conflict with the Deviants. Kirby, who wrote and frequently drew the series, built the story around figures like Ikaris and Ike Harris, alongside human scientists Doctor Daniel Damian and Margo Damian, while the villainous Johann Shmidt and the Deviant leader Kro added tension. Though it ran only 19 issues, this series laid the foundation for a unique corner of the Marvel Universe, blending Kirby’s signature cosmic scale with a deep-time epic that would resonate for decades.
